Mellat Trading Company was formed in 1993 by a merge between Mellat Bank, Mr. Saeed Eslami, and Mr. Amir Hossein Erfani. The main purpose for establishing this company was to provide Trade Finance for the Iranian industry and traders for importing raw materials and finished goods against payment on 360 days by deferred payment. In the year 2000 Mellat Bank sold its share to the other shareholders, so that the company became fully private. Since then, the new shareholders kept Trade Finance operation as the main service to manufacturing and trading companies in general.
